Choosing the right shoes for playing volleyball on either casual or professional level, you should consider the differences between men’s and women’s feet. The structure may seem the same, but most men have longer and wider feet, which affects how body weight is distributed during the play.
In this piece, I gathered all my thoughts after testing different men’s volleyball shoes on the indoor court and on the sand. I selected models that I consider the best men’s volleyball shoes based on their performance, protection, comfort, and price. I also recommend learning all the rules and tips to improve your performance gradually and avoid trauma in this agility-greedy sport.

Here are my experience-based men’s volleyball shoes reviews. I did my best to include as much useful information as possible to let you compare each model and make a decision painlessly.
1. ASICS Men’s Gel-Rocket 9 – Volleyball Shoes for Men
ASICS is one of the most popular sports shoe manufacturers in the world. This Japanese brand has been making sportswear since 1949 and had influenced Nike founder, Phil Knight, to start his brand. Despite huge competitorship on today’s market, ASICS remains a leading brand and my favorite one when it comes to volleyball shoes.
Gel-Rocket 9 volleyball shoes are designed specifically for indoor sports. The forefoot GEL material provides excellent shock absorption along with flexibility and durability. The torsion in the midfoot area is controlled by the proprietary molded part called Trusstic System. I noticed that it helps to change direction sharply without too much tension. The sock liner is made of a material that changes its shape after several plays to mold your feet. You can also take it out and replace it with an orthopedic part.
The sole consists of 3 parts which have different flexibility. Such a design results in better traction and significantly reduced shock level during lendings. The main sole doesn’t leave marks so that you won’t stain any court.
- Excellent shock absorption;
- Breathable mesh;
- Many color options;
- Heavy-duty non-staining sole;
- Replaceable sock liner.
- No extra ankle support.
2. Mizuno Men’s Wave Lightning Z5 Mid – High-Level Men’s Indoor Volleyball Shoes
Mizuno is another Japanese sports gear and apparel giant. The brand’s history began over 100 years ago. Today, this family brand is amongst the most progressive high-end manufacturers of sports equipment for virtually all kinds of sport.
Wave Lightning Z5 Mid shoes are made to provide as much protection as possible during your indoor matches and pieces of training. Every inch from toe to ankle is covered. The toe part is strengthened with a U-shaped rubber part and 2 smaller pads that work as shock absorbers if you land on your toes. The upper front area and sidings are made of breathable mesh that guarantees even ventilation and moisture-wicking during the entire game. My feet didn’t sweat at all, even during the hottest matches.
The most exciting part is the ankle, though. It’s higher than in most shoes by the competitors to provide additional ankle support and reduce the probability of trauma. This part also keeps the joints warm.
The sole design is pretty complicated but makes it a joy to perform quick movements. The sole has 4 parts of different hardness, which make it easier and safer to maneuver and extend the lifetime of the shoe. In addition, the heel part and the midsole are ventilated. Due to this, the air pumps in every time you step, which reduces sweating and balances the temperature inside the shoe. It’s a great club and college-level indoor shoe model!
- Unique sole design with great shock reduction;
- Strengthened toe and ankle support;
- Lightweight materials;
- Anatomical insole;
- Ventilated heel and midsole.
- Quite pricey;
- Only 1 color option.
3. ASICS Men’s Netburner Ballistic FF MT – Good Men’s Volleyball Shoes
As ASICS is my favorite brand in the category of athletic volleyball shoes, I’ve tested other high-rated shoe models by the brand too. Netburner Ballistic FF MT was a fresh 2020 volleyball shoe model, so I hurried to get in right after the release. This time, the brand introduced a new midsole design called ASICS.FLYTEFOAM. This part provides a bit more bounce, so it’s a good choice if you need to reduce stress from jumping a bit.
The outsole of this model is available in several variations, but all of them consist of 3 elements that provide toe and heel protection. The heel support is designed to provide extra firmness to your stand and make it easier to rush forward or to the sides. This is achieved due to a slight offset between the 3 layers of the heel part of the sole. My heels feel very good when I land hard and make harsh rushes to the sides.
You can also choose between the models with average height and slightly higher model with strengthened ankle parts. All of them have quite good ventilation from the sides, but not all versions have bottom mesh vents for extra air pumping. That’s not too notable anyway.
- Cool color options;
- 2 outsole versions;
- Great heel support for softer landings;
- Replaceable sock liner;
- Durable outsole.
- Not all sole versions are ventilated from the bottom.
4. Adidas Men’s Stabil X – Best Shoes for Outdoor Volleyball
You all know Adidas. This German company grew from a small family factory, and today it has one of the largest market shares in all categories of sportswear. The brand offers a variety of unique solutions for casual players and professionals, along with awesome designs and durability.
Amongst all the volleyball shoes I tested on outdoor and indoor courts, this model appeared to perform the best outside. It has the flattest outsole amongst all the shoes on this listing, which makes it feel more natural and provide more control over your movements.
Although the whole shoe looks so loose, it actually isn’t. The soft flap is strengthened with a solid rubber heel bridle that prevents the heel from slipping. The larger belt prevents excess side movement and distributes shock evenly when you make sharp cuts. The toe isn’t protected with any firm rubber pads, but It’s very durable as the entire upper part of the shoe is made of flexible rubber. The loose part at the shaft is the top of the inner mesh sock. This unique design offers great breathability through the lacing and heel parts.
- Lightweight and sturdy design;
- Unconventional support frame design;
- Good ventilation through the inner sock;
- Low-top shaft;
- Grippy flat sole for indoor and outdoor play.
- No ankle support.
5. ASICS Men’s Gel-Netburner Ballistic MT – Excellent Light Volleyball Shoes
One more great ASICS that I like wearing to indoor matches. This Netburner variation has an extra-sturdy synthetic upper frame with thick, soft cushioning inside. The soft layer helps the outer frame hold your feet firmly and efficiently absorb shock energy in all planes and directions. This system results in extremely high durability that justifies the relatively high price of this footwear. The sole is designed to protect your toes and heels, while the midsole and bounce power. These shoes are also quite wide, so it’s a good pick if you have wider feet.
- Heavy-duty design;
- The natural rubber compound of the sole;
- Bouncy midsole;
- Reduced sole weight;
- Supportive GEL cushioning.
- Quite expensive for beginners.
6. ASICS Men’s Upcourt 3 – Top Budget Guys Volleyball Shoes
I cannot neglect to mention one more ASIC model here. Upcourt 3 is the cheapest ASICS model on my listing, and it’s one of the most reliable as well. The shoe is made of synthetic leather and breathable fabric that provides good ventilation. The outsole is made of classic ASICS non-marking rubber, while the midsole is made of a proprietary EVA rubber that offers good bounciness and shock absorption on landing. SImilar to more expensive ASICS models, this one has a removable sock liner so that you can change it if you want to use an individually crafted medical orthotic liner.
- Excellent budget ASICS shoes;
- Good choice for beginners;
- Excellent shock absorption;
- The sock liner is replaceable.
- Not many design options.
7. Mishansha Men’s Athletic – Good Budget Indoor Shoes
Mishansha is one of those cheap Chinese brands that suddenly appear to be worthy. The brand provides good volleyball shoes men’s beginner volleyball teams require. These shoes that I have are made of quality synthetics, have 3-part soles that copy ASICS Netburner sole design, and also have excellent air circulation.
I can’t say that they’re amongst the best volleyball shoes ever, but they offer everything you’d expect from shoes below $40. I place them lower than ASICS shoes that cost nearly the same only because my level of trust in both brands is different, and I don’t have as many years of experience playing in Mishansha shoes.
- Excellent grip on indoor court systems;
- Sturdy design;
- Cushioned from inside;
- Supportive mid-top shaft;
- One of the best budget models I have.
- Not the sturdiest model in the long run.
Volleyball Shoes FAQ
You’ve been asking me these questions about volleyball shoes quite often recently, so I decided to take the most buzzing ones and answer them in an article. Finally, I did it! Enjoy, and don’t waste time on googling.
What is so special about volleyball shoes?
Well-made volleyball shoes are designed to provide better traction on the court. Next, they’re more lightweight than running or basketball shoes to let you move faster and jump higher. The inner cushioning of this footwear is made to reduce shock from landings, sudden stops, and quick cuts. Finally, the soles provide all that excellent traction on the hard indoor court.
Do volleyball shoes make a difference?
As you see from the previous answer, these shoes are the game-changers. If you pick attentively, you will enjoy your play, reduce the probability of injuries, enhance your jumping performance, and feel more confident overall.
What shoes are good for volleyball?
Although volleyball shoes look a lot like most other athletic shoes and sneakers, they are different inside. That’s why you should look only for those models that are recommended for volleyball by the manufacturer and happy owners.
Foot injuries are amongst the most common volleyball injuries, so it’s important to pay extra attention to what you wear to both training and matches. To my mind, shoes are the most important pieces of gear for a volleyball player. But don’t neglect other necessary pieces of volleyball equipment, too, as they work the best when being used all together!
Is it the first time you are looking for a pair of male volleyball shoes? If yes, do you still have any questions after reading my reviews? You’re welcome to ask! If you have already bought any of these shoes or other models, please, add value and tell about it in the comments!
